Keeping up with Patricia

Since Waiting’s exclusive interview with Patricia Routledge CBE in our last issue, the Wirral-born actress has continued to be very active in the Northwest.

While September saw her in Stockport, giving a wonderful performance of her two-person show Facing the Music (which is currently still on tour across the UK), this December has Patricia returning once again to Wirral, to play host to a carol concert at All Saints Church in Thornton Hough. Carols and Candles is being held to raise funds for Claire House, of which Patricia is Patron, and takes place at 6:30pm on Tuesday 8th December.

Tickets are £10 per person, and are available now by contacting Claire House on 0151 343 0883 or by calling into Claire House Fundraising Reception; please remember to mention Waiting Magazine.

Patricia will be then be appearing at Chester Cathedral as Reader at Chester Music Society Choir’s concert Aspects of Christmas – which will also feature Chester Philharmonic Orchestra with Graham Jordan Ellis as conductor. This show takes place on Wednesday 16th December at 7:30pm.

Finally, Patricia has recently shown support for her alma mater The University of Liverpool, providing funding for bursaries for students studying English Literature. She said: “My long and close association with the city of Liverpool, in particular with its prestigious University, where my love of the English language and its literature found continuous nourishment, prompts me to encourage local people to discover and enjoy the riches of our literary heritage.”

Her generous involvement has enabled two students – one retired, the other recently returned from social work in South America – to undertake the Reading in Practice Masters programme, which studies creative literature and its emotional resonance, and how reading can
contribute to health.
